GP1971F does not work with TM185M

Hi all, I purchased the GP1971F and a TM185M chirp with temp. There is no option on the head unit to chose the type of transducer that i have. The unit auto choses the TM150 option but this can not be correct because the temp setting doesn't work. I have spoken to my local distributor who has told me I may need to wait for an update which could be the end of the year and will cost another $140.
If this is the case I will be extremely disappointed as the website says that the transducer is compatible with the unit. This is my first Furuno and Iam dead keen to get it working properly and start using it. Can anyone shed some light on the subject please.

Thanks

It is the 1Kw medium freq transducers that are not compatible until the next version of software. Although listed, Furuno USA hasn't been selling these transducers yet. Each distributor has their own policies but Furuno USA has never charged for normal software updates. You should be able to download it from our website once it becomes available. (Planned for the first or second week in September).

Not yet. We have asked but it has been delayed from the original plan. It should be soon based on previous discussions with Japan but they haven't provided us any schedule.

Please note that new software and instructions for this unit will show up under the product support page within the next 24 hours. It has already been posted but it takes time for it to migrate.

HI Johnny. I tried several times today to upload the software but it keeps coming up with an error.
I download the update fine. Unzip the file and put it on a brand new 16gb micro sd card but the unit wont read it.
To unzip the file I right click on the file and select Extract . Then when it is done unzipping I take that file and put it onto the card . I check the card and it is in there. Put it into the unit and it says that there is a card error.
When I down load the file it is 364 mb but when unzipped it is over 400 mb, is this correct?

Update.

So I downloaded the program AGAIN and put it on the micro sd card only this time I formatted the card. It was a brand new card but I read on a thread on this forum to try and format it.
Well I'm pleased to say it was successful. I have one last question though.

It still doesn't list the TM185M so what do i select for the transducer?

Thanks

Hi there team , just waiting on a reply to previous post about which transducer selection to make as it defaults to the TM150M. TM185M is not listed.

Thanks

You would use the setting for the B175M. That (185M) transducer hasn't been officially released and Airmar questions where you obtained one so far in advance of release. Furuno USA should be making them available soon and Japan will have follow up software updates for the unit. If you have one in hand; the B175M setting would be your best setting.

Hi Johnny, any feed back from Airmar about how I obtained my transducer since I sent you the receipt mate? I'm concerned that they can say that when for months nearly all of the shops that sell the GP1971F clearly have on their websites that they are compatible including the Furuno website (which when I checked just now )still lists it even though they are very aware that it is not.. It makes me wonder where they got that information from. I can only assume it was Airmar themselves since they are the ones that make them.

Airmar says they haven't been selling them, so that is a mystery. Have you loaded the new software which released two weeks ago? Does it not work?

I have mate I just haven't got a chance to get out. Hopefully all goes well. I was just interested in what Airmar had to say.

Just a quick update. I went for a run in the boat and the settings you gave me are working great. Chrystal clear picture and the temp is working . I appreciate the effort Johnny thank you mate.

I have the exact same setup. Purchased the TM185M about 3 months ago.

Any chance you could share the settings you’re speaking of Brettv??

Thanks!

Hi Jonny Electron, Have there been any software updates since last year for the GP1971f mate?
Bfrench7 have you sorted yours out?

Yes, version 2 software was posted and now the medium band transducers are supported. It has been awhile. You are reading an old thread. We should see version 3 software come out in about three months. My understanding it will bring TD (Loran C numbers) support.

It is called version 2. It is located on the Furuno USA website under the product page, support documents, Software. The software and instructions are posted and free to anyone who want them.
