Hey guys, I have a FCV1150 with a 2kw CA38BL and a 2kw 200B 8B, Ithink I have the low frequency pretty well sorted for out deeper but really want to try and get the High set up for inshore cray fishing, generally under 20 fathom, I can’t seem to get good separation between the hard ground and sand, any advice on settings I should be using would be great.
Thanks

Willie125,
Can you clarify what you mean by "good separation between hard ground and sand"? How are you currently trying do this, by using the tail of the primary echo?

Hi Snips, I am trying to get my sounder to give more of a definitive picture between the Hard (Rocky bottom) and soft (sandy bottom) I have attached a few pictures of the sounder and you can see the difference from the hard to the soft but its just not as obvious as I would like with my old 587 I use to get a very thick Red Bottom when i was on the hard and then when on the soft just a very thin orange, and yes I just use the Primary echo to try and do this. Hopefully you can understand what i'm trying to ask its pretty hard to explain.

Willie125,
While it would be nice to compare the two machines straight up but you also changed transducers at the same time, now it's like comparing apple to oranges. At this point you are going to need to learn what the FCV-1150 is showing you when you are going different bottom types. Yes you can play with some of the settings but at some point you will need to settle a group of settings and go with them. One suggestion would be to start looking at the 2nd, 3rd or 4th returns as I feel you can glean more information from looking at them rather than just the tail of the primary return.

Thanks for the response Snips I’ll keep playing around with and as you say hopefully get use to it. Any suggestions on the settings I should be running or should I just keep trying different ones till I find something that works for me. And to get the 2nd,3rd eco dose that just mean I would run the sounder on manual range and set it so that I can see all 3 ecohs? Cheers

Good morning Willie 125,

Yes, you will need to run the unit in manual range and use a range scale that is triple or quadruple the depth that you are actually in.

Hope that makes sense.

It would be good followup to post some photos when you go out for evaluation using this technique.

We look forward to see what you are seeing

Cheers!

C-Bass
