FCV588 SS264 pair lost signal

We both 200 and 50kHz on our FCV588 with SS264 pair.
Was getting good signal then cut out.
Per attached we observe choppy returns like it cuts in and out (background of the setting pics).
Settings attached.
Connections look ok.
Any ideas what to troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance.

The settings all look good. While your water depth is a bit shallow for using LF, the LF clearly shows you are getting turbulence on that transducer. When the bottom gets cut completely thru, that is turbulence not noise. If you take and float the boat and run the sounder sitting still, I am sure that would look perfect. Turbulence always always affects the LF more than HF. I can't tell how fast your moving but Transducer placement seems to be an issue with the LF transducer of the pair. While you might also be getting some on the HF side it is much better at dealing with it.

Thanks for the quick feedback.
Understand you observation of turbulence.
We were only at trolling speed 7-9mph.
Attached is a shot from the same time at slightly deeper depth.
Thanks for any additional feedback.

808hazmat,

Can you supply any pictures on how your transducer is mounted..? This turbulence that we are seeing in your pictures shouldn't be present at these types of trolling speeds.

- Deep Blue.

When was the last time the boat was hauled and cleaned? I have seen barnacle growth create aeration causing similar issues if this is something that seems to have recently shown up.

Wish it were that simple.
Trailer boat so no growth.

Please see attached installation pics as requested.
There are no fittings that could cause turbulence ahead of the SS264 pair.
My friend did comment that he had an FCV 586 or 587 head and it had gone "black screen" one day and that is when he installed the FCV588.
When the FCV588 was initially installed he reports it worked ok.
He also commented that when the boat is sitting still in the water it still has the "broken" return plot.
Thanks again for your assistance.
Sean

That location is awful for getting turbulence. Bubbles are going to get trapped and run right down that edge and that rib itself is going to create turbulence as it cuts thru the water. If there isn't a better choice on the inside closer to the keel, then it is what it is. Turbulence is something you can't fix with settings.

Acknowledge the observations regarding poor location and likely turbulence.
Does Furuno have a tech shop that we could possibly send the FCV unit to and have diagnostics run on it?
Possibly with the SS264 pair to have the system bench tested?

Reason is that the owner reports he had an older FCV (586???) on here and it worked.
At some point after the 588 was installed it clunked out with a black screen.
Owner reports the "skips" in return signal started after this.
So possibly there is history that this installation was working to the owners satisfaction before.
Thanks, Sean

808hazmat,

Here is probably what is happening with that LF Transducer due to it's current location with the proximity of those hull chimes. Keep in the mind the faster the boat travels, the wider and the deeper this turbulence will become. ☹️

Especially if the vessel is making any type of turns left or right.
