FCV585 connected to Onwa KP1299-A

Hi all. Hoping someone can help me. I have an FCV585 and have recently installed an Onwa KP1299-A chartplotter with built in AIS. The specs for the Onwa say it receives TLL nmea sentences. My hope is that I can connect the 2 units together to a. Have Onwa feed GPS data to Furuno and then have Furuno feed water temp / depth and, when I press the Mark button on the Furuno, that a waypoint will show up on the Onwa. But here is my dilemma and question. The Furuno is obviously rs422 nmea0183 with TX- & TX+, and RX- & RX+ whereas the Onwa is rs232 with TX+ and RX+ and GND. Can someone advise me how to wire these up? Do I have to get converters? I’ve read you can wire them without converters if ‘you know what you are doing’!
Appreciate any help / advise people are able to provide.

Yes, one NMEA2000 to NMEA0183 converter is required. The Furuno model is the IF-NMEA2K2. it has both NMEA0183 In and Out connections.

Here is the link for more information: https://furunousa.com/en/products/if-nmea2k2
Thanks for the suggestion but I’m not sure you have understood my question. Both units are nmea0183. One (the Onwa) is older style rs232 and the Furuno is new rs422. I’m not sure why I need a nmea2000 to nmea0183 converter? Am I missing something with your suggestion? Thanks.

Disregard, most are NMEA2000 to NMEA0183 questions these days. That being said you'll need a RS422 to RS232 converter. Do a google search. there are plenty out there.

Back again with another query. I now have the FCV585 talking to each other. I can successfully see water temp and depth on my Onwa chartplotter but, even though the FCV585 is successfully generating the GPS coordinates in the ‘mark’ function, the TLL sentence my Onwa plotter is receiving is as follows:
$SDTLL,,3814.4135,S,14501.3075.E,,,,*44
My limited knowledge of TLL seems to indicate that things like target number, target name and target status are missing. My questions are these:
1. Is what my plotter is receiving as a TLL message correct output from FCV585?
2. If no, what should it look like and what nmea sentences going to the FCV585 might be missing to correct this?
Any help much appreciated.

Likely the plotter doesn't even support input of TLL. Have you checked with Onwa that it is rated to accept TLL? The sentence looks correct to me.
Yes have checked with them and they say that the TLL sentence was missing ‘Target Status’ information (see image) hence my request as to whether the TLL sentence I posted looked correct. I also don’t see any target number in the sentence I posted which I would have thought would be needed to put an identifier of sorts on the waypoint? So I am trying to establish firstly, whether the sentence being outputted by the FCV585 is correct. If that is the case then I will deal with any issues at the Onwa end. Appreciate the help.
