FCV 585

Someone told me if I wanted to add another depth finder on the boat, that since I have a 1kw transducer that I would have to find one compatible. Is this true?

Overdraft,
As long as the transducer has a 10-pin Furuno plug, the FCV-585 can use either a 600 or 1kw transducer.

Hello guys I have a furuno fcv-585 model with the tm270w 1 kw transducer and I have a problem with the 50khz frequency. The thing is when I stop the boat the 50khz works perfectly but as soon as I start cruising i.e: "trolling" the screen gets filled with noise i.e.: red clusters. For the noise to go I adjust the gain to 2 which is very low for 80 or 100m depth since i troll or jig for tuna. Everything above 2 the screen becomes all red. Where as the 200 kHz works perfectly fine while cruising. Any idea what's wrong?

Foudy15,
Since you are fishing so shallow, are you also seeing gaps in the bottom on the 50Khz side? If you are then it is more likely to be a water flow issue. If you aren't I would suspect the sounder is "maybe" picking up engine/alternator noise. A way to tell is to get the vessel moving past trolling speed so the noise appears then kill the engine. If the noise immediately goes away it engine related, if the noise is still there but slowly weakens as the vessel slows down it would point to a water flow issue.

Hope this helps.

Thanks snips I'm Gna give it a try and by the way the water is not shallow at all it's more than 1000 meters depth but I set up the sounder to read only a 100 meters when I troll or scout for tuna. Il let u know what happens when I kill the engine while cruising. Thank you

Hi snips I just figured it out and I want to know if it's right! The 50hz worked while cruising when I put the TVG to low instead of medium.. So now with the TVG set to low and my depth range is set manually to 100m and 50-200 dual will the sonar work properly while trolling for tuna?
I.e. : I use the dual 50/200 so that when the I see the fish on both screens I make sure they're under me
Ps: I dunno what TVG is :)
Thank you for ur time

Foudy15,
TVG stands for Time Varied Gain. It is used to control a sounders shallow water gain i.e you don't as much at 10ft as you do at 300ft. Normally the TVG curve is set on Medium when you changed it to Low you have less gain so less targets/clutter. As you can see in the below screen shot below changing from Medium to Low has a more visual effect on the 50Khz side than the 200Khz. Using the sounders Demo mode is a good way to see the effect when you change settings.

Also just know that your noise issue is still there, you just need to raise your gain level to see it.

I know the noise is still there but when I put the TVG to low I can increase the gain to 4 without having noise all over the screen whereas when it's medium the maximum gain I can have is between 1 and 2.
