hi Everyone - I am looking at purchasing a Furuno FA-50 AIS second hand and wonder if there is a way that a user can reset the MMSI etc or is this something a Dealer must do and if so do they still do this for FA-50 units? thanks in advance - ps. am wanting to avoid 0183 and use the ethernet connection to the MFD12

Greetings Garthpaine, the Furuno FA-50 AIS MMSI needs to be reset by an authorized dealer for maritime safety and security reasons. A lot of these units have GPS modules that have experienced GPS-Rollover and may not function properly, however there is a software update that can be performed to recover them to fully working condition. If you find any unit that isn't working or has older software installed, my recommendation would be to have it sent into our service repair center for a service evaluation, software update, as well as request the MMSI be reset all before installing it to the vessel.
