FA-50 Update

I bought a boat recently which has an FA-50. Current version is 1.06 so needs to be upgraded in order for AIS to work.

With the unit off I hook up a laptop with the updates and start the update batch file, then turn on the FA-50. It sits with the green power light and a steady red ER light. I've let it sit for several minutes but nothing changes and the update never seems to start. The only message I have from the update is the one showing the IP address.

If I exit the update batch file and turn off/on the FA-50, it seems to boot fine, but if I run the update after the FA50 is already on nothing seems to happen.

I believe the laptop has a good connection since I can bring up the FA-50 menu on it once it's running.

You need a network hub inbetween. Turn off firewalls and anti-virus problems as they are intended to stop data flow. Run the programing software "as administrator". If you can't sort it out, you can send that in for a free courtesy update except for the cost of the return shipping.

I have 2 boats with FA-50 installed on them having the same problem of not transmitting.
I followed all this process and it worked on one of the boats. Repeated the same steps on the second boat but it failed. When i start the bat file, the prompt opens but does not go further after putting on the device as shown below. Kindly assist with possible things to do

Apparently, i later on observed the FA50 device has the error lights on.
What could possibly be the reason?
How to clear error light?

What fixed it for me is making sure the Windows firewall was turned off. I had originally temporarily turned it off when initially trying, but I later rebooted Windows and the firewall was back on. What I recall doing was:
- Make sure Windows firewall is disabled
- Turn the FA-50 off
- Start the batch file
- Turn the FA-50 on

Yes. I did this on the first boat and it updated just fine.
But for the second boat, the Error light on the transponder comes on and remains.
