FA-50 ipaddress

Our vessel has an mdf 12 and an mdf 8, radar, depth, wind, navilot 600 and FA-50 ais which is configured with an IPaddress -- which of the other Furuno devices will be efffected by changing this IPaddress?

I never recommend mixing your boat network with the Furuno network. It is best to keep them separate and connect to the internet via Wi-Fi via the boat network system whenever needed. Mixing the networks is asking for problems. The NAVNet is strictly a class B network using the 172.31 address structure and it needs its bandwidth for radar, sounder, and other communications. The FA50 uses 172.31.24.3 and really shouldn't be changed.

I agree with not mixing the two subsets - I've bridged the 127.31 net through a router to the internet in an attempt to link the internet to the furuno net - it's not working not sure why but the only place I can find to configure the furuno network is on the fa50. Why would furuno use a /16 it gives a huge number of ip addresses?

They tend to use either fixed IP addresses or the software preassigns a non-conflicting IP within a dedicated range. I can't comment or speculate what the developers were thinking in how they determined to design the system.
