DFF1 working but not displaying numerical depth Navnet 3d

I recently fitted a used DFF1 to my NN3D. The sounder is producing a bottom trace but the numerical depth is not displaying a figure. I'm sure that it has worked but what can have happened? Any clues appreciated.

Go into the installation wizard and confirm the DFF1 is selected as your sounder source 1st, next I would proceed with the instructions on setting up the data box is set to display depth. See pic below

By adjusting the bottom level sliders for Hf an LF to -20 thie depth is now displayed numerically. I'm not really clear what these parameters are but things appear as they should be at the moment.

Bottom level is much like the squelch on a VHF radio. The lower the setting can make it too sensitive and pick up noise (like giving depth to fish or items under the transducer rather than bottom) and too high you can miss the bottom returns. It sounds like you have adjusted it correctly. Particular to the DFF1 older software, it was common to have to drop the BL to -20.

Thank you Jonny Electron. Helpful info. Do you think it worth upgrading the software to latest? This is a used unit I bought and haven't looked into what release number is installed.

When you have some downtime, I would definitely recommend the upgrade of the sounder software.
