DFF1 and PM111LH-W?

I'd like to upgrade the transducer on my current DFF1/VX2 system in the near future. However I'd also like the same transducer to be used with a Chirp Furuno system when I upgrade my VX2 system at a later date.

Is the PM111LH-W a good match for my current DFF1? I found an earlier post that stated it was a good match for a DFF3. I was under the impression that Chirp transducers would not work well with a non-Chirp sounder so the earlier post about the DFF3/PM111LH-W gave me hope it could be paired with my DFF1.

Thanks

Adeotec,
I can't recommend pairing the a DFF1 with the PM111LH-W for two reasons. First the DFF1 is a two wire system, meaning that it is meant to be used with a transducer that resonates at 50 & 200Khz or using a transducer that has a built in diplexer. Yes, you could use a MB-1100 to split the two wires into four that the PM111LH-W needs but I would still not recommend this because of reason two. The DFF1 transmits at 50 & 200Khz and most Chirp transducers resonate better around the 42Khz range on the LF side. Will you see fish targets on the LF side, yes but they will be weaker than they should be. If you can live with less LF performance the wider beam of the HF side "might" make up for it depending on your fishing requirements. The reason that the DFF3 is a better choice is that you can slew the frequency to better match the transducer.

Thanks Snipes, I really appreciate the detailed reply.

1) Are you aware of any Chirp transducers that coincidently also perform optionally near 50/200khz? I guess that would really solve my issue.

2) Despite the less than optimal combination do you think the performance of PM111LH-W operating with a DFF1 would still result in a substainatal upgrade vs a DFF1 running a P66 or B60 transducer?

Thank you

Adeotec,
My answer to your first question would be no, but I haven't tested all the Chirp transducers available to see which ones might work. The P-66 is the starting point for all transducers i.e. single element that resonates at both 50 & 200Khz. The more (and bigger the elements) a transducer has the better performance you can expect. Would a PM111LH-W performance better than the P-66, yes it would, but then again so would a B-164 or B-260.
