CMAP Genesis ? The Answer to Navionics Sonarcharts?

I like it, but I think that they are heading in a similar but slightly different direction with their DFF3D, possibly with the V3 update that is supposed to drop in the near future. Side note, this is just me reading tea leaves with no actual inside information.

That is the end user doing the work for the companies. Uploading your own information for them to convert. Ill stick with my dff3d mapping.

In my opinion. If Genesis live or a similar model puts map lines on the PBG map we drew with Dff3d, furuno will be 10 steps ahead of its competitors in terms of maps. I'm talking about precision batymetry plotted on the PBG map.

SO what's the fix going to be for no navionics charts??? These charts available for free are lacking details! Is furuno going to provide another source of detailed Mapping?? Additional to what we can currently get?

Good question.

Furuno needs to revisit their chart strategy. Here on coastal NC, we have islands that move monthly. The tip of Cape Lookout has shifted 600 yards in a year. It is 2022 - static charts on SD cards for a device that supports wifi is borderline archaic.

We appreciate the suggestion, and I can refer this over to Mapmedia. However I'm sure they're already informed and are looking into it, amongst all the other sort of charting options currently available (crowd sourced or otherwise).

In my area CMAP Genesis (Social Map) is just awful. I used to run a Lowrance plotter, navionics 3d maps and a 3-in-one transducer w/sidescan. I've uploaded many sonar logs to c-map genesis of the long island sound (thimble islands) which have been accepted as public maps and added to the social map. I'm not sure it had any impact to the social map and what is there is dangerously inaccurate and low detail--far lower than what I uploaded. There are areas marked 1' in 20' of water and areas where you'd be on the rocks but show 10' of water. Its a great idea but its pretty clear from looking at the social map that the charts are not at all detailed and not using actual sonar data. Either I don't know how to actually read or use them or they are negligently dangerous.

I wish Furuno would reconsider the Navionics sonar and 3d charts. The options available on the tzt3 are also inaccurate and woefully under detailed in the thimbles and near shore in many areas. Until the situation changes I'm still carrying around an ipad in case I'm in an area I'm not familiar with.
