Can I run three transducers?

I have a TZT2 15 that I want to hook up to my existing B164. I’ve just installed a DFF3D with the B54. I’m also Installing a TZT3 12 and was thinking SS175HW or SS175M to take advantage of the internal chirp sounder. I mainly bottom fish 50’ to 300’, which would you recommend?

Can I run all three transducers together?

I’m also thinking of installing an SCX-20, but I know there has been some conversation around whether or not the internal TZT2 sounder is compatible as the brochure on the link below suggests? If not, will it be addressed in a future software release?

Cheers.

Hello,

I am assuming you want to be able to transmit all three sounders/transducers at the same time? You can transmit all three at once but you may or may not experience some interference on the sounder screens when all three are transmitting. That can be solved by just stopping transmit on one of the sounders and focusing on a certain sounder and switch back and forth between the others when you want to use them, if you do experience interference. That would really be the only issue you may encounter.

What were you referring to exactly on the brochure? It is also better to use Furunousa.com and not Furuno.com which is the Japanese website.

Hi kicker,

Per my last post, I’m also thinking of installing an SCX-20, but I know there has been some conversation around whether or not it is compatible ( pitch, roll, and heave information) with the internal TZT2 sounder? If not, will it be addressed in a future software release?

I was also seeking advice on the following - I’m Installing a TZT3 12 and was thinking of selecting the SS175HW or SS175M to take advantage of the internal chirp sounder. I mainly bottom fish 50’ to 300’, which transducer would you recommend?

Cheers,

I have a DFF-03D/B54 and use a B175H and B175L on TZT 3s. I can speak from direct experience that the DFF-3D and B175H will interfere with one another if both are transmitting. It is worse on the B175H. However, if you set the interference rejection filter to "high", the vertical lines will go away so you can run both sounders at the same time. I don't see much loss of picture quality from using the interference filter.

I started a thread on the interference question when I first saw it. You may want to review it and look at the screen shots viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6722

I have been using the DFF-3D and the high frequency side of the TZT 3 with the B175H for a couple of months at the same time with no problem once I gave up and left the interference rejection set to high.

I think that Furuno is working on some revisions to the sounder software that may help.

The TZT2 internal sounder does not support those features at this time. I am unsure if there is talks about it getting heaving or pitch/roll added for future software updates but information has been passed on.

In those depths, I think either option will be good.

Hi Quitsa,

Thanks for sharing your first hand experiences with me. A little disappointing considering the DFF3D is one of Furuno’s flagship products, I guess expected these issues would have been identified during testing and resolved.

Hopefully it will be resolved with the next software update.

I am not sure there is a software fix for the interference problem. The DFF-3D uses a 165Hz frequency. The high frequency CHIRP transducers used with the TZT 3 internal sounder transmit over a range from 130Hz to 210Hz that has an overlap. I am no acoustic engineer so I don't know if the 165Hz echoes could be blocked specifically to avoid interference on the TZT 3. Just as an experiment, I "tricked" my TZT 3 into seeing the transducer as a single frequency 200Hz so it would operate in CW mode at 200Hz. That also eliminated the interference at some small cost in performance.

As I said, it's not that big a deal because the current interference rejection filters on both will eliminate it on the high setting. I run mine together all the time when fishing.

Once I’m up and running with my new configuration I will have a play. Reading posts on other sites with someone running another manufacturers MFD along side the same TZT3 setup, he was able to remove the interference quite easily, I can only assume the difference is the smarts in the software.

I’m no expert either btw

Thanks again for sharing.
