Calibrating PG700

Hi Guys,

I've just installed a new DFF3d along with a PG700, i've run the calibration process multiple times but i am still having some accuracy issues. I can't get any better than about a 10 degree +/- variation from my Richie compass. The heading is about -10 off to the north and +10 to the south, with the east and wests more accurate.

Is this due to the quality of my circles during the calibration process? I felt i got them quite accurate but with a bit of wind blowing, you do have to alter the steering to keep them accurate. Therefore a little bit oval in some cases.

Other question is whether i can run this process with the boat on the trailer? The circles will obviously be a lot neater if driven with a car. Just wondering if there is are any problems with doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Sean

Good morning SeanNC,

Thank you for your inquiry. So after the calibration did you check the heading vs. the course over ground with a GPS machine? I am curious to see if the heading deviates the same when comparing to COG at a planing speed?

Sometimes the calibration process may require additional offsets to the heading in order to get it truly dialed in. But I would like to ask you more questions about the installation site of the PG700. Can you please provide a bit more detail to the installation site of the PG700? Is it next to anything that creates an electric or magnetic field? How about next to any large pieces of metal or pumps?

Looking forward to your answers.

C-Bass.
