AIS data on a vx1 display?

I have an AIS receiver which outputs NMEA 0183 data. Is there anyway to input the AIS data to a VX1 display and plot the positons?

NN1 dates from 2002 before AIS was being adapted. It wasn't until the Vx2 that AIS was supported. There is no way to use AIS with a NN1.
