711c rotary knob slow

New to us boat. I'm just getting the hang of the autopilot remote.
Changing course with the 711c rotary knob is really slow. One click does one degree, but only if rotated very slowly. Anything faster than a click a second doesn't register. It clicks, but the course doesn't change.

I noticed the rotary knob isn't happy in the menus either.

Is this normal behaviour for the 711C rotary knob?

I can definitely go faster than 1 click per second with mine, but if I spin the knob too quickly it definitely misses clicks. The limit is probably about a click per half-second with the knob.

Use the arrow buttons to get 10* at a time, those small course changes with the dial are painful.

Hmm. I just used it again today. The rotary dial is not working well.
Two slow clicks to Port = One degree to Port + one degree to Stbd = no coarse change. That's not right.
Clicks to stbd are even more random.
I'll need to pull the unit out and send it in for repairs. It's starting to look like a safety issue.
