I am upgrading from a 600L and should I get 620 or 627? I Have heard some negative reviews on the 627

Axisimex,
Good question. The basic difference is that the 627 has a bottom discrimination mode and thus is limited to the transducers it is programmed for. When used in the fish finder mode both the 620 and 627 have equal preformance.

I fish in Hawaii and the depth is over 6-12,000ft. So reading the bottom is not needed

What depth range are you looking at, 0-200ft, 0-600ft? What transducer are you using on your 600L?

The depths are 120 ft to over 6000. But I really only need a maximum of 600ft and I am fishing for Tuna and the bottom make up is not that important

Axisimex,
How well did the 600L perform at 600ft? A 600 watt ducer has about a 40 degree beam on 50Khz. The FCV-600L was also a 350 watt machine. Both the FCV-620 and 627 have more power, 600 watts. But if you put a better transducer onboard you can increase the sounders performance even further. A better transducer will have a narrower beam width which will focus the sounders power into a smaller area producing better fish returns.

Hi Axisimex,

another two good reasons for choosing the 627: the number of pixels 640 x 480 vs. 240 x 320 (FCV620) and Post-Processing Gain Control setting :furuno

I think that the best reason to purchase the 627 is the better picture quality and it is newest and should have bette technolgy

Thanks everyone for your help, I will let your know how the 627 works
