6112 RRU install questions

I'm installing a 700c with 6112 RRU.

Looking in section 1.3 of the install manual I've got 2 questions.

1. Installing the RRU with a Y2 distance of 13.8" will require major work. I can readily install it with a Y2 of about 9". If the remaining geometry is correct (centered on the shaft and with the arms parallel), if there is adequate clearance when the rudder is hard-over in both directions, is it a problem installing the RRU at 9"?

2. The RRU has a series of holes in the arm - 80mm, 90mm, etc. Does it matter which one I use? I assume I just use the one that maintains the proper geometry.

Thanks.

Should be no problem.

Yes to maintain the Geometry. Ideally you get the best movement resolution the further you are out from the hub.

May I add another question to this thread regarding the FAP-6112. If I mount the unit upside down do I need to reverse some wires? Probably the yellow and Black, though I'm not certain about that at all

Hi sir
I have problem with my fap 6111 rudder indicator.
Can replace the rudder indicator with fap 6112. Is there any modifications required?
Please advise

Yes, the FAP6112 is the replacement unit for the FAP6111. You'll have to use the hardware that comes with the FAP6112 (tie rod, bolts ect.)

If I can add another question to this thread. I suspect that my 2013 FAP6112 is getting a bit tired and is leading to some of the issues I am seeing with the NAVpilot 711C throwing a "Rudder drive error". I am in Mexico, and have been working with dealer to order and have a new one sent to me. In the meantime, I will be at a marina for a few weeks, so have some time to fiddle with things.

My question is whether it is possible to disassemble the RRU6112 and clean the wiper resistor? I have some good electrical contact cleaner and have successfully rescued electromechanical relays in the past. Is it possible to dissemble the RUU enough to get some spray to the wiper? I have started digging into the area where the RUU is installed, but it will take more effort to remove the unit. There is no sense in taking things apart in the rudder area, is the unit is fully sealed and can't be accessed without destroying the RUU.

I just spoke with one of the tech support folks in the west coast office. From my conversation, it looks like it can be removed and cleaned. This may help a bit unless the wiper resistor is fully toast. This will help me as a wait for the new unit to find its way to Mexico.

Well, I just heard back from one of the tech support folks, who said; "It is a sealed unit. Even if you did get it apart, it would probably ruin it." So now, I am confused about what to do. I need to order a new RRU FAP6112. The tricky part is figuring out how to get it delivered to La Paz, Mexico. I've email the nearest Furuno dealer, but they are located in Panama. I ran a search and it appears that Camus WA supports Mexico, so I will call them on Monday. I am worried about having the shipment getting stuck in customs for months, which I've heard can be an issue. I am in a marina for only 2 weeks. Ugh...
