G'day Gents,

Have had a 587 with a tm260 for a couple of years now, but before I get into the troublesome details, can you tell me if you think there's a chance on this boat to mount the tm 260 or not?

Cheers,

Platta

Platta,
Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like you have about a 3" height spacing between the bottom of the transom to your outboard extension. The TM-260 measures 6.77" plus it needs an additional 3.5" if it ever gets hit to kick up. I do not recommend trying to mount the TM-260 on your outboard extension, that gap will be quite the turbulence maker.

Thanks Snips, yeah you're spot on, and pretty much answered all the questions I have!

Unfortunately when I ordered the boat I had had a good look at the same model that a fishing charter has here.... except that they've only got one outboard! Never thought about an extension to put the two motors on, and purchased the TM260 to get some good deep resolution, only to find out later there was no where to install it! The boatbuilder ended up putting it inside the hull next to the batteries, right on the "V" of the hull (see photo).

It actually works quite well, very little apparent interference and doesn't miss a beat trawling. The big problem is that cuts out after only 115m, and every now and then it cuts out for seemingly no reason in much shallower water. Obviously there are issues with Accu-fish and bottom descrim, but I haven't used them much until now.

I guess the only question left is: if I get myself a more appropriate transducer (thru-hull), can the TM260 been cleaned up nice enough to sell after being installed inside the hull?

Cheers,

Platta

Platta,
It doesn't surprise me to hear that shallow water performance is ok but suffers in deeper. Could you clean up the TM-260 and resell it? Probably so but for how much is anybody guess.

Okay no worries, thanks Snips.

Another quick question: I noticed the software version on the 587 is quite old compared to the current version (1.01 I think mine is), judging by some of the other posts - one difference I noticed is the list of available transducers. Are there some major changes that mean it would be better to update the version? If so, is that something I can do, or the unit has to be sent to Furuno?

Cheers,

Platta.

Platta,
Updating the software is done at our main service center.
