Hi every one
please tell me is a r509 a good trans for the 292 sounder?
Im thinking r509 high med for fishing swords and deep drop fishing.
cheers

Gregg,

I would not be afraid to use the R-509 if you are fishing down to 3000 Meters. This transducer has 24 elements which makes it extremely sensitive to everything. It will give you target detail and resolution at all depths, with good separation between any baitfish and gamefish.

Thanks for that info. Can you tell me your thoughts about pocket mounting that ducer 25 or 50 % through hull? the boat is old fibre glass hull that im happy to modify. Also please can you explain the tap settings? I have a 292 which I intend to change trans output power from 1kw to 3 kw by resetting jumpers and setting the dip switch to correct freq but have no info about tap settings for r509 / 292 combo. the unit has the 02p6204 main board. the end game for this boat is to have the 295 sounder in about 12 months time. thanks for your time. cheers

gregg,

My bad, I just realized that you don't have the FCV295 yet, and I just checked again. That R-509 will not work with the FCV292. :noway However, it will work with the FCV295, so it's something you might now have to consider.

These Pocket Transducers are normally used on commercial vessels, and these transducers have a housing that are designed to be flush mounted in an external void directly above the Hull or in the Keel.

And its recommend are that these types of transducers are mounted towards the front of the Boat near or around the second Bow wave.
