I'm wondering if someone can tell me how important are chart updates??

All the charts on this machine were new updated to the latest version this time last year.

Is it worth the trouble to update again this year?

That is something you must answer for yourself and a bit of a loaded question. It is pretty important if you hit a buoy that was moved and it could have been avoided by having up to date charts. If talking about updating the free NOAA charts for the USA; then I don't see why someone wouldn't. If you know your area well and and using a paid for chart like C-map then I understand the thought about putting off an upgrade, and maybe it would be okay..but I would never recommend someone not to use the newest data.

1. How often are charts updated?

Licence free charts like NOAA are updated once per year. C-map/Navionics/MapMedia tend to update at least once a year but manytimes are done twice a year.

How do I tel what date my charts are?

For the TZT2, you would find an open area and touch the chart in question, then select "Chart Info". This will tell you the production date, version and other items.

3. How do I tell what the most current chart available is?

Check either FurunoUSA.com or MapMedia.com to see if there is a newer version available for the chart in question. If it has been more than 1 year; there is most likely a newer version available.

4. What’s the best/easiest way to update just the charts I use?

It depends on the chart in question and your budget and/or time. You can purchase a new chart card from your dealer every year and upgrade any licences you have, if you want. This would be the easy way but has costs involved. If you are updating only the licence free areas like NOAA; it can be downloaded for free from the web, unzipped, and placed on your existing chart card. This method takes your time but no funds. Any licencee charts would of course require a upgrade purchase for new unlock code if you wish to view the new versions.
