V8 update problem

I tried to update my TZT2 to V8 using the 4GB card I always use for software updates. When inserted and turned on, the screen had the Furuno logo and name and said "system is updating" just like the update guide said.

But it just stayed there for 24hrs like that. I had no choice but to turn the system off by cutting power.

I tried again with a different card - also one I have used successfully in the past. Again the logo and name and "system is updating" came up, stayed that way for ~10min and the unit shut down with orange power button. No other screens or behaviors between the logo screen and shutdown.

So I put the V7 update back on the card, it ran through the update procedure pretty quickly, and it is running again under V7.

Any suggestions why the V8 update won't work?

We're having good adoption with folks upgrading to V.8 so far, :think

Let's double-check that It's a two part update; one part via a memory card and the other part via a USB drive. Take a look again at the instructions, and carefully prepare each drive for their respected function. No zip files, everything unzipped to the root of the cards. ;)

Of course, if you run into further issues, no problem, Furuno offers a fully configured software upgrade kit for V.8. Contact your local authorized Furuno dealer about the TZ2-SOF-SD1 set. :cool

You can also try re-downloading the software, and trying the update again. :geek:

If there was a hiccup or interruption during the download, the files could be corrupted. :thumbdown

The version 8 update is worth the effort! :D

Thanks, I will download the update again and retry.

Yes, the files were unzipped and only part 1 containing 4 .bin files was attempted via a memory card. Part 2 is still on the flash drive and hasn't been inserted yet.

This is my third time updating the TZT2 and the only time it has failed.

Success, but not how I expected.

I re-downloaded and unzipped the v8 files again, put them on the 4Gb card and tried updating. The logo and name came up with "system is updating", then immediately went to "system update failed".

I put the files on the other 16Gb SD card and got the same thing.

I only had one more nano SD card that I've never used on the TZT2 because it is 64Gb. I put the files on that, inserted and the update went quickly and perfectly.

I don't know why the other two cards don't work in the TZT2 anymore. They appear to be fine, I can see all files on the computer, and disk utilities show it to have no errors.

So my lesson is that TZT2 updates for my system must use SD cards larger than 32Gb?

Congrats! Enjoy the new features of V.8.01!!! :jump :jump

You can read some other threads posted recently on the subject, in general it's not the size of the card as much as it's the card manufacturer. For example, some dealers have had difficulty with Kingston and PNY brand cards.

Hope this helps, :sail
