TZTouch2 & NAC-1

Hi,

I have a TZTouch2 and have been offered a Simrad cable steer autopilot that has a NAC-1 for a really good price, does anyone know if my TZtouch2 will integrate with and be able to control the NAC-1? Thanks.

It likely isn't putting out any fielded data in the PGNs it is providing to the bus. The data must be present for the data to be selectable.

Hey Johnny I’m back, after talking to Furuno they guide me and told me witch GPNs to turn on and I can see the NAC-1, now my question is,
How do I see/commission the autopilot on the TZT2 if you know I will appreciate it, if you can help.

Hey Johnny, sorry to bother you again. I got some information from Furuno Simrad just wanted to check with you and see if you agree with this.

The Simrad NAC-1, will share information with Furuno MFD but will not operate the auto pilot in order to operate the auto pilot. We will need a Simrad MFD.
Thank you again.

Maybe another customer can debunk that. I haven't seen a simrad pilot that Furuno and other brands can't drive particularly if they follow NMEA standards. If they have gone proprietary where they don't work with anyone other than themselves, it wouldn't be a good idea for sales. Normally you would go into the MFD and turn on the PGNs needed (129283, 129284, and 129285) then typically you go to the pilot and pick the plotter as your navigation source. Simrad got purchase and they outsourced their support to India but I doubt that they have gone where no one can drive their pilot. While they would love to sell you more hardware, I highly doubt that it can't be driven by anyone but them. It says it is NMEA 2000 so if really isn't.... I will let you fight that battle with them but I think the tech you spoke with is more about sales than tech. We don't need anything FROM the pilot. We drive the pilot so it needs data from the plotter to steer the pilot, not the other way around.

When I talk to Furuno they did told me about the GPNs and I turn them on, but on the Home Screen of either furunos TZT2 and GP1971F I don’t see or it doesn’t give me the autopilot icon.
With that being said, I have not been able to locate the auto pilot option for me to commission and be able to use it.
From Furuno they told me if I was to use Navpilot300 I will get an icon on my screen.

Pilots of the same brand of the plotter can give you a few extra bells and whistles but it isn't required. After setting the PGNs and setup the pilot Navsource, it is simple as drop you a GOTO or Active ROUTE and go to the pilot and hit "Nav" and it should start steering. Auto pilots normally have two modes... AUTO (Hold my current course) and NAV (listen to the steering coming from my plotter). It really is not that complex and having the plotter pop-up and offer to hit the NAV function automatically for you is something you wish to buy a new pilot or plotter over; that of course is your option. If I had a good working plotter and good working pilot, I would just hit the Nav button myself and save the money for something else.

Got it, I will try it this weekend, I’m for sure don’t want to spend money I don’t have to, I got the NAC 1 from my friend and I’m trying to get to work with my Furuno MDF that’s all, and to be honest with you I had never had AP.

Do you have a separate control head for your NAC-1? Simrad MFDs can act as a control head for a Simrad autopilot but a Furuno MFD cannot. If you have a separate control head, like the AP44, then you would control the pilot with that. The Furuno MFD will supply route/waypoint information.
