TZT2 vs GP-1971F

Hi all,

I am setting up my new fishing boat with Furuno electronics. I need some help on choosing the main part, either to go with TZT2 or GP-1971F. I am also thinking of adding FCV-295 to the system as a separate sounder.

I normally target deep drop fishing and trolling for tuna. I am thinking of using either TZT2 or GP-1971F with 1kW HF (around 150kHz to 200kHz) transducer for shallow water, and FCV-295 with 2kW LF and MF (38kHz and 88kHz) transducer for deep drop.

I notice the TZT2 comes with Rezboost while GP-1971F with Chirp. Can someone please tell me which one would be better, esp. for shallow water (up to 400 ft)?

Please also recommend suitable transducers with these equipment.

Thanks,

Good afternoon Blue Dragon,

Will you require a radar for future use?

Rezboost is a filter on the receiving side of the sounder that can give the image more detail where as chirp is a change in how the sounder transmits.

Why the medium frequency? Is that a common frequency that is used in your region?

Also what kind of vessel? Trailer or in water full time? How about speed of the vessel ect.

Couple of questions and we should be able to set you up with what you need.

Kind Regards,

Hi C-Bass,

I mentioned LF and MF for FCV-295 because I think of HF for either TZT2 or GP-1971F. There is no particular reason for MF though.

My boat would be 38 ft custom-build single-hull aluminum boat. We expect the normal speed is around 25 kts and max. speed would be over 30 kts. The boat would be in water most of the time.

Do I need two or three separate transducers for FCV-295 and either TZT2 or GP1971F?

Thank you for your advices.

Hi C-Bass,

Could you please let me know your advice?

Good morning Blue Dragon,

Thank you for the additional information.

You have a number of different fisheries that you are targeting that all kind of have unique needs as far as what you want to look at so there will likely be some compromise in the system that you choose.

No doubt when going deep for deep dropping you want low frequency and higher output power, so something like a 2kw 28kHz or 2kw 38kHz will be you likely choice. I like the 28kHz because it gives you a wider beam angle so the fish you are targeting will be in the beam longer this making the mark bigger on the screen. Either one of these transducers work well for pelagic trolling as well because they cover a lot of water with the wide beam spread. They also have a higher Q so they are used quite successfully for bottom truthing to find hard and soft sports.

As for fishing in shallower water up to 400ft, what kind of fishing are you doing in this condition? Are you looking for structure or bottom fish like grouper ect? or is this far pelagic fishing where you are just looking at the top 300ft to 400ft of water?
