TZT2 shutting down and then won't turn off

My TZT2 has been good. No issues. I did the most recent update when it came out and used it for the first time today. Everything was fine until late in the day and it turned off by itself. Turned it back on and about an hour later turned off. Each time it turned off, I turned it back on and the last 2 or 3 times it did it, it didn't stay on for more than a minute or two. The last time I turned it on, it clearly was having a hard time coming on. The FURUNO logo flashed multiple times, the progress bar page came on then went off a couple of times. It finally turned on and lasted until we got home. Then, it could not be turned off. Any ideas?

Jagsare1,

from the symptoms you describe, it appears to behave as if the power switch is pressed long. In that case it powers off without prompting. It would also explain interrupting the startup sequence. As this is a sensor switch it might be confused by moisture and erroneously sense a touched condition.

If moisture caused this, big problem seeing that it is mounted on a center console. But it has been "wet" before so I tend not to think that is the issue. I researched and found another identical post discussing the same issue. There was a suggestion to check grounds, which I did, so will have to watch next time out to see if this continues.

Been reading a few posts of TZT2s powering down by itself, all inconclusive. When I had one of my TZT2s out of the bracket and placed face down on a soft cloth to work on the cabling it started to power cycle and I found that anything near this sensor switch, gets it to do that. I know from other devices that these type of sensor switches develop their own live once in a while. Most react to a capacitance change and rebalance themselves to what they think is the non-touched level.
Hope you don't get this problem again, but if you do, I recommend you try to wie clean the area around the power switch.
