TZT2 fishfinder questions

Jagsare1

Furuno Fan
I have been using a Furuno 585 with 1KW tilted element transducer and it works very well. Upgrading my helm and will eliminate the 585 and plug that transducer into the TZT2 that I already have. I have tried this a few times and there are a couple of issues I have seen.

1. The digital readout comes and goes often in both shallow and deep water. The 585 doesn't do this.
2. When bottom fishing in 1000', the 585 works fine but the TZT2 appears to freeze. The screen doesn't move at all. I am thinking this is a setting and I am trying to figure out how to mimic the settings I use in the 585.

Suggestions?

Good morning Jagsare1,

Thank you for your inquiry.

1.) Please try adjusting the Bottom Level setting in Settings for the sounder menu for both High and Low frequency. Please lower this value to a negative number, I would start with -20 for both high and low frequency. The bottom level adjustment is basically a threshold that determines what is a good bottom reading. Lowering the number allows the sounder to generate a digital bottom number more easily. This setting should help you out.

2.) Can you please provide the software version number of the TZT2 and also the software version number of the internal sounder? In the settings Initial Setup, scroll down until you see the option for a quick self test, please provide the software version of the TZT2 and also the software version of the internal sounder. The sounder will likely have 3 different software versions, please provide all of them.

Kind Regards,

C-Bass

Thanks. I've never even heard of that adjustment. Sorry for the delay, I forgot I had this question here. I will get the software version as soon as possible but I am doing a helm re-do so it may be a week or two. Thanks again.

Good afternoon Jagsare1,

Thank you for your reply.

In the latest version of TZT2 software, a quick self test can be accomplished. Please follow the steps below and report back at your convenience.

In the settings, Initial Setup, scroll down until you see the option for a quick self test, please provide the software version of the TZT2 and also the software version of the internal sounder. The sounder will likely have 3 different software versions, please provide all of them.

I took a pic of the screen.

Is there no way to display water temp on the screen of the TZT2 FF? I have the temp line but I want digital temp.

I don't think you can read the software versions can you? I tried enlarging the pic and can't. I can write them out if you were not able to read.

I cannot read the Software Version. If you could write it out it would be helpful.

Must have deleted it. Will have to get it again. I need time to work on the FF because it isn't functional for some reason and I am concerned. Finally got the boat in the water and it sat in 8' or so for almost an hour and wouldn't pick up bottom. The range kept going to 1000' to 20' to 1000' to 20'. I turned auto-range both on and off. I prefer it off.

I'll get that software info again.

SST in the data box. All I want is for the SST to display digitally on the fishfinder screen. Apparently, you have to open the data box that covers 1/4 of the screen and put it there. I don't want to lose 1/4 of the screen. I run split screen with no problems but when I have to add that data box, it screws everything up. Ridiculous Furuno did away with digital depth.

Jagsare1-
Have you tried to have one of the data boxes blank except for SST and set the transparency close to the maximum? That might work for you.

If you are having a hard time find bottom, try adjusting the Bottom Level HF and LF to a lower value, something negative, you could start with Neg. 20.

Let's try this again. Starting to regret selling the 585 because the fishfinder on the TZT2 is totally non-functional for the moment. Maybe it is just settings but I have never had an issue like this and I have had Furuno FF's for the last 25 years.

Good afternoon Jagsare1,

Your sounder has the latest version of software.

Have you tried to lower the HF/LF Bottom Level?
What value is this currently set to on your machine?

Can you post any photos of the sounder in operation in shallow water and also deep water?

I followed your instructions earlier in the thread on a setting. It didn't seem to make a difference. I haven't changed anything else. I have never had to mess with multiple settings just to get a FF to see the bottom so I am pretty surprised about what is happening here.

I would have to put the boat in to get pics and not sure when that will be. In a nutshell, in 8 feet of water, the digital depth comes and goes. The range changes every few seconds even though I turned auto range off. It is not finding bottom at all. This same transducer worked perfectly attached to the 585.

Is there a way to give me a single guide where settings should be so I can try to set them all at once? Or should I reset everything? I'm trying to prevent going back and forth to the boat 20 times.

Thank you for you return reply,

In previous post we recommend setting the HF/LF Bottom Level setting to -20 for both frequencies. If that is currently the setting that you have been using without any change in picking up a digital bottom readout I would set the value a little lower to -30 for both HF and LF.

To answer your question about a single guide that can be used to help with this scenerio, i am afraid there is not. The operators manual does explain what the settings are, but maybe you have read the manual and need more information.

Based on what i know with your situation, without any photos to see first hand what the bottom looks like we have to make an educated guess. There is really only one set of settings that can be used to help identify a digital bottom readout and that is with the HF/LF Bottom Level, which is a threshold.

It is new to me to understand that when the sounder is set to manual range that it continues to cycle automatically to deeper ranges. This should not be the case, the unit that I have on my bench does not perform this feature when the unit has the auto range feature off.

Please allow me to discuss internally with our service team to hopefully better assist you.

Please standby.

Good morning Jagsare1,

Thank you for your patience. After discussion with our team we feel it would be best to first update your TZT2 MFD to version 5.03. Currently the OS on your TZT2 MFD is (2) revisions behind. As mentioned in the previous email the sounder software appears to up to date but the OS for the TZT2 is a couple of revisions behind.

Please see the links below that will direct you to a PDF document that explains how to perform the software update. The next link will provide the software than can be downloaded to your personal computer. The file that is downloaded is in a ZIP format which will need to be unzipped before placed on a micro SD card.

Please note, we recommend using a micro-SD card no larger than 32gb when doing the updates. I personally use a 16gb micro-SD card and have never had any issues with the load program.

If you have questions or concerns please contact our Tech Support via phone to get your questions answered preferably.

I'll do my best to get the update to the machine tomorrow but still have to get the boat to the water to test. That will be most likely next week. I think the reason the range continues to scale up and down is that for some reason, it can't read the bottom.

Reading the instructions, it says to perform a MASTER RESET? I can't paste it but it is the second to last sentence in the update instructions. Do I really want to do a Master Reset?
