True wind with FI70

Is there a way to make the FI70 calculate true wind speed and direction with GPS (COG/SOG) rather than heading and speed-through-water?

Thank you for your inquiry.

The FI70 can calculate true wind angle and speed referenced to the vessels bow without heading but it will require vessel speed. STW or speed thru the water has a higher priority than SOG or speed over ground. But it should be able to display true wind angle and true wind speed referenced to the vessel's bow without heading as long as you have speed.

My question was not clear. I am looking for a way to have the FI70 calculate TWS/TWA using GPS SOG/COG and not DST-800 STW and PG700 heading. The TZT9 appears to do this.

Nope your question was clear.

The if the FI70 is fed AWA and AWS and it also is getting SOG it can display TWS and TWA referenced to the vessels bow. If you are looking for Theoretical True Wind Angle and Speed referenced to North it requires heading.
