Transferring Waypoints from old 1970F to new 1971F

How do I transfer the existing waypoints. I have a blank micro SD card to use.

Could you clarify which product you have? Furuno doesn't carry a product with that code. Do you mean a GP1870F or something else?

All documentation for either device is freely available online. Please visit www.furunousa.com and input the model no. of your product, select view support/tech information for a list of all available documentation.

Hope this helps, :sail

I’m sorry, old unit is a GP1870F. New unit is a GP1971F. I don’t see information on transferring waypoints from the GP1870F to the new GP1971F. Neither of the manuals cover this.

The older GP1870/1970F unit used a C-map format and the newer units use a more standard GPX format for waypoints. For a one time transfer, we normally recommend you open an official support case with technical support and they can convert the data set for you and e-mail you the GPX file back. If you need to convert often then we recommend looking into having your own converter program that supports both formats like SeaMarks (http://www.andren.com).

When I purchased the new GP-1971F, I was told that I needed a new C-Map 4D chip. That Is what I ordered. It seems there should be an easier way to transfer waypoints from an old C-Map chip to the newer unit. By the way, the new chip I received is not showing wrecks and reefs that I fish.

You might discuss the chart and detail with C-map but there is a ton of selections to turn on/off detail in the machine; I would recommend playing with first. They have a lot of VAD (Value Added Data) that can be turned On for additional detail on most of their chips. The Mapping chip has nothing to do with the waypoints and routes user data. Both the older GP1870F and newer GP1971F uses C-map 4D mapping. The only difference is the chip size (full SD vrs microSD) but most C-map 4D chips use the adaptor so if you had mapping before, it should have been a matter of just removing the adapter and reusing the same map. If the chart was really old and didn't use the adaptor, C-map might have offered a swap out for the same chip in micro format. Not really something for Furuno to be involved with though. That is all related to C-map and their product support. If you still have question relating to the C-map mapping I recommend contacting them. They know their product best.
