Tracks Disappear too quickly

Hi there,

Im wondering if there is anyway to have the TZT2 save my tracks for longer? preferably forever! Our friends have a ray marine plotter and it has at least their last 2500NM of tracks still showing where as the TZT2 for us only saves the last 300-350NM of tracks before it auto deletes them.. This is really annoying!

Any help would be great.

Cheers!

Good morning Blue Yonder,

Thank you for your inquiry. The TZT2 can store up to 30,000 points for tracks, we need to look at how the tracks points are being stored on your unit. With our current software the TZT2 will store tracks by time only. The time interval can be set in the ship and track menu, you have options to store the track point time interval as fast as 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 min, 5 min, or 10 min. Please keep in mind if you are sitting still or your speed over ground is 0 and the track plotting is turned on the unit will continue to drop a track point based on the time interval chosen in the ship and track menu and eat up the track point memory. If your are sitting still or at anchor you can always chose to not record track points.

To currently view how much memory the TZT2 unit has used for track points you can tap the [home] button, choose [settings], choose [general] and look for "Data Usage."

To turn the track plotting on and off there are a couple ways to achieve this. This easiest way to do this is touch the boat icon on the plotter screen and turn track on or off.

Kind Regards,

Nic,
Thank you for your excellent question. The NavNet TZT2 has a track memory of 30,000 points. The track line that appears on the screen is actually "connected" individual points of track. The TZT2 places these individual track points based on time, and you CAN adjust the time interval between points anywhere from 5 seconds to 10 minutes. Setting the track interval for the maximum of 10 minutes would mean that left powered on, the unit would track for approximately straight 208 days before the memory became full. So once the track memory becomes full, what happens? Well there are two possibilities. If the "auto track deleting" has been turned "ON" in the menu the unit will begin to erase the oldest track points to make room for adding new track points as needed. If the "auto track delete" is turned OFF and the track becomes full the unit ceases track function and the current track remains as it was "forever" (as you requested).

Let's hope that a new software version is forthcoming that will allow for tracks to be saved based on distance and not just time interval alone. Even my old NNVX2 allows you to select one or the other because time interval tracks are just not that useful... at least for me.

i get a flashing yellow "Maximum Track Points Reached" or similar at the top of my screen. I have two 15" units and the master, which is the one i keep on chart at all time, just reached maximum points. The slave, which i keep on depthfinder or radar at all times has been flashing for a month or 2. Thanks for the solution....ill hopefully be able to fix it now. But curious as to why the screen that doesnt even track would run out of memory first?

I had the same thing happen to me at about 30 hrs of use with a lot of that time drift fishing. I was amazed it happened so fast.

If you turn on auto track deletion it wont ever come up with the "maximum points reached". At 30,000 track points if you setup to say 1 point per minute, that would be 500 hours of tracks or 20.8 days (running 24 hours a day). If you need to keep tracks older than 20+ days, I would recommend saving them. Using the saving function you can have as many tracks as you want to keep. Many times naming them by the channel or area is helpful. Systems in the past like the Vx2 would auto delete when the trackpoints were all used up. The oldest point will be deleted as you need a new one. The TZT2 given the option but I recommend automatic deletion to be turned on.
