Software update 26.11 makes the unit very hot.

Yesterday I updated my 13 X with 26.11 and noticed that the machine runs extremely hot. Even the touchscreen is hot to the touch. Has anyone else experienced this?

Assuming that is the software load I downloaded yesterday, YES I did notice my electronics produced excessive heat last night during a sunset outing of an hour and 45 minutes. Now I’ll have to check it more closely when I’m on the boat next which will be Saturday morning.

We have been running the software for about 1.5 weeks prior to public release and the software hasn't made any difference with our units. The units do allow some heat as they duct the heat to the back and front of the unit. Direct sunlight and general operations during hot days can cause the front panel to get pretty hot. As with any unit ensure it isn't wrapped up tight in a box with no vents. The ambient air needs to be allowed to pull the heat from the unit. I will pass on your concern but I have seen no trend or change just based on this software update.

Ran the boat today. My 13x is in a typical center console with the rest of my electronics. I ran the plotter and sounder with a 1kw transducer and the 225khz side scan for about 2 hours. Using an IR thermometer, the ambient temperature in the console was about 90ish°. The temp of the heat sink on the back of the 13X was 135° and the rest of the casing of the unit was 112°. Left the console door open for an hour, put the sounder in standby for both transducers and the heat sink came down to about 118°. The rest of my equipment was about 85-90°, even the stereo amp. The console was shaded the entire time.

135° seems hot to me, but I don’t know if that’s normal range. Please advise.

Captsully. My findings. Also please note my MFD is a TZT16X
1. My voltage drop was in no way related to my Furuno systems.
2. My screen is warm but not hot enough to be concerned
3. My electronics compartment is also my battery compartment. I get plenty of heat from all of it. I placed my hand on the back of my unit and it was certainly hot but I could keep it there without burning myself. Definitely hotter than I want for the longevity expectations I have.
