SCX-20 Shoot Thru Fiberglass

I have a 31 Contender with a sunbrella t-top. On the top I have a DRS12ANXT and VHF antenna. Unfortunately the only spot on the ttop I was able to mount the SCX-20 was adjacent to the open array and it constantly loses heading info, especially when the radar is on.

Alternatively, I'm considering mounting the SCX-20 under the anchor hatch in the bow. It would require the SCX-20 to pick up satellites thru the fiberglass hatch but no metal obstruction.

Will this work?

I've been told that the SCX-20 is very capable thru fiberglass but haven't yet routed the cabling to test it.

The SCX20 should have clear view of the sky and not be in the radar beam. If the SCX20 was too close to the gearbox, the GPS signals could have been received directly and secondarily from bouncing off of the gearbox. We highly recommend temp installing the SCX20 and trying it in different locations. Although we don't recommend installing below fiberglass, if you test it and it works...then it works in your particular case. You'll just have to try it.
