saving user settings

I have one unit that will not save the settings after changing them and properly shutting down. I also tried to save the user setting to a USB thumb drive. It says failed but it will read the last tracks/points that I saved a month ago on the same thumd drive.
Isn't the unit supposed to keep the last settings internally if it was powered down properly? I would not think it would need a thumb drive always inserted to power up with the last used settings.

The unit is losing all settings every time you turn it off and power it back up. It seems to have settings from a few months back stuck in it . It also loses any new trails end points added. I tried to do a hard reset today through the service man and it failed.
I'm thinking the unit needs to go back to Furuno.

Was this unit updated to the newest software? It almost sounds like it might have been updated but the clearing process of the sounder settings wasn't done. When 6.21 updates the sounder FPGA, it requires the sounder settings be cleared BEFORE a master reset of the unit. (as described in the update instructions). If that isn't the problem; then I agree it sounds like it needs to be looked at. It does not require the USB inserted to keep your settings.

The unit has been back for service before, the ethernet connection quit working. I am pretty sure that it was updated there.

Normally it is best to call support when you are at the boat for troubleshooting. In this case, I just called up support and ask them to contact you. You should hear from them shortly.
