Roku with XL

I had apple TV issues after an update. I wonder if this had to do with that. I like to use low def settings to use less starlink data. As of late I can only use High Def otherwise the screen goes green. Any advice?

Because the XL units are designed as industrial navigation tools rather than consumer entertainment hubs, they lack the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) handshake chips required by devices like Roku, Apple TV, or Fire Stick.

To get a Roku signal onto your Furuno screen, you effectively need to "strip" the HDCP encryption so the MFD perceives the video as a standard, unprotected HDMI signal.
  • Many inexpensive, non-branded HDMI splitters (often found on Amazon or eBay) do not strictly enforce HDCP on their outputs. When you plug the Roku into the input and the Furuno into one of the outputs, the splitter often completes the "handshake" with the Roku itself and then sends an unencrypted signal to the MFD.
  • What to look for: Look for splitters that mention "HDCP Stripping," "Bypass," or simply basic HDMI 1.4 1x2 splitters.
  • Recommended Brand: ViewHD and Orei are frequently cited by boaters for having models that successfully bypass HDCP 1.4/2.2.
