Radar Range issue

I have a furuno RSB-0062 open array and a 1941 display. Bought them with the boat but I knew the previous owner and the display was replaced with a used one 1-2 years before I got the boat.

Issue is much past say 3 miles I have a hard time picking up boats unless they are big commercial ones. I have played with Gain, sea and Rain to no avail. My buddy also unable to get it to display boats out further. I recall it was better with the older display so thinking the display is bad? I know this is an older unit but I had a raymarine closed array on my last boat and it was superior to this unit and it only cost $1700.

Any thoughts?

It doesn't sound like the display unit, but more like a typical weak magnetron. They are a normal wear item. As they go bad, it is like a light bulb getting dimmer. Targets get harder to pick up on longer range and small targets get harder to pick up; as it goes bad. The unit need maintenance. Comparing a broken 20 year old unit to a working one really isn't helpful, but I have never seen a properly working Furuno open array get beat out by a dome of any brand. It has to do with many factors like the horizontal resolution and power. I recommend getting the unit evaluated for repair.

Oh so this is a repairable thing? Any recommendations of where to get it repaired?
