Radar image on TZ9 not showing Scan

My TZ9 doesn’t show scanning. I have made sure it is in TX mode. But there is no scan images of noise or targets. Then scan line doesn’t sweep and just stays on the heading line.

I must be missing something basic. What does anyone recommend to resolve?

Does your radar power supply show that it powered on and working?
Have you checked the radar source selection has your radar selected?
Do you have watchman feature turned on?
Do you get any errors or alarm on screen?

The PSU 12 is power light is on. The radar is selected as source (RD003016 - DRS_RADOME). Watchman is on 5’00s. What should I check next? The TZ9 screen shows the overlay but no signal, sweep, noise or contacts are shown while I am sitting in harbor.

There are no alarms/errors on the screen.

I would start by turning off Watchman that is designed to automatically turn off your transmission for periods of time.

I have watchman off. I assume that means when in TX mode the menu item does not show any time interval. What next?

The TZ9 screen shows the overlay but no signal, sweep, noise or contacts are shown while I am sitting in harbor.

When troubleshooting, don't add complication. Instead of doing overlay, bring up a single full screen radar. Ensure the radar is properly selected under the RADAR - SOURCE setting, then try to transmit. Ensure that you have your GAIN to AUTO, Clutter to AUTO, and RAIN set MANUAL Zero. Do you have any radar returns in transmit? Range in and out. If you don't have returns, you should be getting some errors.

Hi Johnny,

Still nothing. No errors. No returns. Just screen with range ring, bearing circle but but absent cutter/noise/contact/land ...

Tx-hv=341.09v
12v = 12.02v
5v = 5.01v
3.3 v = 3.29v
Pulse voltage control = 10.10 v
Tuning voltage = 1.09v
Magnetron monitor voltage = 1.91v
Arpa echo = 0
Arpa land echo = 0

When on transmit I hear a slight buzzing noise from the Radom. The sensor is back stay mounted so I can put my ear up to it. I don’t know if that is normal or if I have microwaved and scrambled my brain. The noise goes away on standby.

I would recommend ensuring both the TZT9 and the Radar have the most current software. If they do; then I would recommend trying a HARDWARE RESET under MENU - RADAR. After the hardware reset, I also recommend a factory default of your radar settings under MENU - RADAR.

Tx-hv. 341.09v
12v. 12.02
5v. 5.01
3.3v. 3.29
PVC. 10.10v
Tv. 1.09v
Mmv. 1.91
Arpa echo. 0
Arpa land echo 0

Sorry about all the menu posts. It didn’t appear that they were being sent to you. These were taken at different times. Where do I go from here? I am suppose to start heading South within the next week. I prefer that I travel with a functioning radar.

Johnny,

I installed new software versions for the radar and tzt9. I also did the hardware reset for radar after updating the software.

Still no echos on the radar screen. Although I am now getting “radar video alarm”. I didn’t get that before the updates.

Any suggestions?

The connection seems good between the two devices.
Based on the alarm you are receiving, it sounds like you have a problem inside the radar scanner. I would recommend you have it evaluated for repair.
