R309 Mounting

Hi,

I am just doing some research before I pull the boat out (32ft planning hull twin screw)
and have a R309 mounted.

The Area on the hull I have in mind is quite far aft and is just inboard of the starboard prop shaft, here lies my question I have read in a couple of different places Airmar installation manual being one of them that you should not mount the transducer near a prop shaft as you could get interference generated.

What kind of interference are they talking about here?, Static build up on a shaft that is not bonded? or is there something else that is going on here?.

I have some pics I will post tomorrow, but as a guess the position wouldn't be much more than one foot from prop shaft.

Thank you!

Weapon,
That area on the hull is more prone to vibration but I haven't seen many transducers that have just been affected from vibration. I would be more concerned with how the R-309 was going to affect water flow going to the props since it is a big transducer.

Sorry not the best of pics but that tranducer is a B260 and where it is positioned at the moment gets air and turbulence if there is abit of slop and makes working in deep water difficult . I think the R309 will need to come further aft and closer to the center line to get cleaner water ? Your thoughts on this?.

Hopefully the worst of the turbulence created by the transducer will pass between the two props?.

Thank you very much for your input!

Thank you for posting a picture of your current transducer location. Normally you will have better performance with the transducer mounted closer to the vessel's centerline. Also I can you see you have some sort of intake forward and lower in front of the transducers current location. Since the flow for turbulence is back and out you have the transducer mounted directly in that path. I advise avoiding these locations whenever possible.
