The trackball assembly failed on my RDP-149 VX2 slave unit. I tried contacting Furuno Panama a few times (about 3 months ago, before coronavirus) and never heard a reply so I have purchased a replacement trackball assembly and tried to install it.
I removed all the screws on the back that were recessed but it seems that there is a metal “tab” preventing me from lifting the front cover, which includes the glass screen protector, so that I can access the trackball assembly. This metal tab connects the front "buttons assembly" with the frame inside the unit.
See attached/inline photos.
I know Furuno does not recommend that customers try to open the unit themselves but a few months ago, we tried to contact Furuno service multiple times with no response and right now I doubt we can get it serviced given world events. We need to have this functioning for a long offshore passage, so I appreciate any help you can provide to help me get this apart.
If you click on the photos, you can see the larger versions and see the tab I am talking about. All photos are from the left side of the unit.
Thanks in advance!
