Navpilot 500 XTE

My setup is Mfdbb, Navpilot 500, PG500, Furuno RRU, GL330b, etc.
The problem I have had for a long time is that when using the autopilot on NAV setting, sometimes the XTE can get to a very large value of say over 200m before it gradually brings the boat back on track.
What's the best way to input a lower level of XTE into the system to correct this problem.
 
Looking at the 500 pilot manual it seems you would want to be in XTE mode. Odds are it is something related to heading or hydraulics if not staying a good course.
