Navnet VX2 Radar only works to 2NM

I have just installed a used Furuno VX2 radar. It was working fine until I started familiarising myself with the settings. I didnt think I changed anything that could result in the radar now only producing a picture when the range is set at 2NM or less. From 3NM and higher there is only a faint picture of nearby land mass. The problem seemed to start when I changed the range group, where the different ranges can be switched on or off. I didnt note which were on and which were off at the time and this shouldn't have caused the problem. Normally I would say the magnatron has failed but it was working fine and only stopped working while I was messing with the settings. I dont really want to get a technician in just to fix a possible setting switch. Any ideas?

What are your gain, sea, and rain settings at? Is monitor mode off? Did you set the correct antenna type in the installation wizard?

Thanks for your suggestions. The unit was working quite well when I installed it, however I will look at the antenna type setting. I have adjusted gain, sea and rain settings from minimum to maximum with only the expected results. I had a radar many years ago that did a similar thing, where it only worked on the lower ranges. I had a technician look at it who said it was a failed magnatron. Possibly just a coincidence (or caused by) that it died while I was adjusting things. Cheers
