Navnet TZ2 vs. TZ3

I have been looking at Furuno MDFs for awhile now, and am getting ready purchase. The TZ2 is not discounted very much and wondered is the TZ3 is worth the extra money. I am buying a radar with it as well, along with a new transducer.

The boat is primarily used for salmon fishing on Lake Michigan.

The TZ Touch 2 and the TZ Touch 3 remains to be our flagship plotters, each with rich features that, for whichever you get, will enjoy.

In terms of charting, navigating, radar compatibility, viewing N2K Sensors, and usability the TZ2 interface is identical to the TZ3. What's different is hardware feature sets.

The TZ Touch2 currently is for our conventional customers who really want a tested and reliable MFD for navigation and fishing with the most commonly found 50kHz/200kHz
Airmar transducers. If you are shopping for a transducer like the 1kW B260 or the 600W B744V, the TZ Touch 2 would compliment this nicely.

The TZ Touch3 is an updated version of the TZ Touch 2 with higher performance processors and more available memory, as well as an internal 1kW CHIRP Echo sounder. If you are shopping for a transducer like the B275LHW, the TZ Touch3 would compliment this nicely.

With that being said, there are combinations of all types with pros and cons to each setup. You're more than welcome to contact Furuno and ask for Light Marine Technical Support or for sales and any one of Furuno USA's team can help steer you in the right direction.*

Hope this helps, :sail

I’m also trying to decide which way to go. I’ll be replacing a older navnet vx2, so either should be a nice upgrade for me.

I have a 1999, 32’ intrepid and a b744 was glassed in at the factory. One problem I have is there is not a lot of room for a new thru hull on the other side. The factory said a b75 has worked for some. So some of the bigger chirp transducers won’t work for me.

I also fish in the gulf so I don’t think I’ll ever be in over 200’ of water.

I’m also going with the furuno autopilot, may also add radar at some point.

So will the added memory and newer chip have any advantages for me? If I decide to go with the 2, and later decide I want chirp can I just add a sounder box?

Can either of these units support two transducers? Could I run my current transducer and a new chirp transducer?

You can go with the TZT2 and use the current transducer and later if you wish to add CHIRP a DFF1-UHD could be added to the boat. Yes, you could run both sounders but you can only look at one at a time unless you have two displays. (select back and forth at will) If you have two displays, one unit could use the internal while the other looks at the DFF1-UHD.

If I need another screen would it make sense to use a GP 1971F and use its internal sounder, and skip the DFF1 UHD.

That isn't a bad option because you don't need extreme depths. You could run a single freq CHIRP transducer with the GP1971F and keep the CW on the internal sounder of the TZT2. It would save coin and hit the mark. The only problem is the GP1971F isn't available to be ordered right now due to component shortages but if your not in a rush; that is an excellent idea.

For salmon fishing on the Great Lakes, a GP1871F 7" plotter paired with an Airmar B175HW would do very nicely...

Just a thought, :sail

Went ahead and ordered the TZ3. I think I can fit it in my overhead electronics box and I’m going to keep my navnet Vx2. My autopilot came in so I’ve started installing it, I’m taking my grandsons fishing tommorow so I didn’t want to fool with the hydraulic lines till afterwards.

This way I can keep my existing radar, I’ll hook my current transducer to the TZ3 for now, and if I want to try chirp I can still go that route.

The TZ3 is supposed to be here next Friday, so I’m sure I’ll lots of questions then.

Most excellent, have a great trip with the boys - we'll be here when you need us.

The B175HW is my all time favorite ducer for targets in the water column down to about 600'
