NavNet 1 RDP 139 losing position data, the system is about 9 years old. Do the gps head units become weak over time? and what would the replacement be? Thanks

The GPS heads can get damaged if in the beam of a radar or too close to other RF sources. For example the GPS head should be at least 3 ft away from any VHF or transmitting AIS antenna. The GPS antennas are not waterproof except in the upright position so don't lower it to its side or upside down during storage.

The replacement would be the BBWGPS that has a list price of $400. It is the same one you probably have.

Thanks, the head had been stored on its side and we had some heavy rains. When using this past weekend the unit started to respond better after a period of use.
I would like to change the head , is this possible without changing the cable. Thanks.

I would test the new sensor first before cutting and splicing, but it is possible to cut and splice the new unit to the existing cable (color for color).

Hi, after setting antenna upright and a few warm sunny days, I was getting position fix in about 40 seconds & 2D/3D. Initially when doing GPS status, I was reading gps OK and machine status of +091, that increased to +112 after awhile.
Today, light rain & overcast it took 90 to 150 secs to get position fix, when it did I had a machine status of +112, and a fix of 2D/3D.
Do you think this is indicating a weak antenna?
Regard's

Machine status has nothing to do with the GPS.
The best place to check the GPS signals is the GPS Status page. (Menu - System Config - Nav option - GPS Sensor settings -GPS Status softkey)

When gps is working, get a good fix, however returning today in overcast weather, suddenly lost gps fix, had worked excellent the previous 2 days. Just trying to get an opinion on antenna before buying new at cost of $400 US. Any help appreciated.

I would ensure that VHF is at least 3 feet away from that GPS or it will encounter RF damage over time. I don't see any other placement concerns.

Still experiencing gps fix issue, I have a gp 330b hooked to my mfd8 in rear cockpit via neama 2000 backbone. Is there a way to use the gp 330b to power both the NN display as well as the mfd 8. Regards

Your original posting said you had a NavNet 1 RDP139. You now have a NN3D MFD8 with a NMEA 2000 antenna? I am a bit confused exactly what system we are discussing and the current question.

Sorry about the confusion, I have a NN1,RDP 139 at my front station with the gp320b, that I am experiencing gps fix issues. I also have a mfd8 at the cockpit with a gp330b,on neama 2k backbone, and a dff1 ff.
Just wondering if I could use the gp330b antenna to power both systems.
I initially installed the mfd8 thinking I might upgrade the front display to a mfd12, and new radar, however I see They are no longer available throug Furuno.

You could take NMEA 0183 GPS data from your MFD8 and wire that over to the RDP139 and that would work. You would always have to turn on the MFD8 for the NN1 (RDP139) to have position. With the unit turned off, you can cut the existing GPS antenna cable on the RDP139 and use the part connect to the display as a data cable. You would use the YELLOW (+) and GREEN (-) as the input wires. Take one of the NMEA outputs from the MFD8 18 pin data cable and turn on the NMEA sentences in your setup. If you get it wired up and need help with the software settings, you might call into our tech support while at the boat.
