MFDBB not seeing J1939 data

I have a MFDBB running the latest firmware. I recently connected a Yacht Devices YDEG J1939 to N2K gateway. Initially the engine data wasn't showing on the MFDBB but after leaving the dock and running for maybe 10-15 minutes the various engine parameters started showing up. While at the dock with the engine at idle speed I noted the MFDBB connection diagram showed the YDEG device so its properly connected to the N2k network. Using my Actisense N2K-USB gateway I am able to see the engine parameters are on the N2K network,

Any idea why the engine data doesn't show up initially? I didn't try to idle the engine for 15 minutes while at the dock to see if the data eventually showed up.

The MFDBB doesn't show a ton of engine stuff like the newer products. I don't recall hearing of any delay issue so it might be caused by the converter or something causing a slowdown on the MFDBB. Keep in mind some values might depend on boat speed to calculate so it might be you need to develop Speed and Course over ground. Even some engine instruments require this infomation before they will start providing some data.

Johnny, I confirmed the J1939 gateway is outputting engine data as soon as the engine is started. The engine rpm, oil pressure, coolant temp, etc show up on my RD33 instantly once the engine is started but nothing on the MFDBB until 10-15 minutes has elapsed. Anyone else experience this phenomenon?

If you put the RD33 on the same drop you use for the MFDBB, does the RD33 display the NMEA 2000 PGNs instantly or does the RD33 give the same behavior as the MFDBB? If so, could be related to the backbone or NMEA 2000 bus issues.

Related to NMEA 2000 bus issues, is there anything else on the NMEA2000 bus besides the J1939 and the MFD & RD33?

Much Appreciated, :sail

Maggy, thanks for the suggestion. Away from the boat for a couple weeks but will give this a try and let you know the outcome.
