The DFF3D like many of the sounders can be stabilized for heaving by adding a device like the SCX20. That example DeepBlue provided is to show while it is possible to have whiteline and see items laying flat on the bottom, it is very difficult. Your normal fishfinder would be normally used for that. Wide multi-beam sonar is designed more for use in finding fish and then go back and focus down on them with an appropriate fish finder. The target fish can make a big difference on what freq is needed to target it. Many also use the DFF3D for building their own bathy data on the charts with a TZT3 or TZTXL. Its a great product but like I said originally, it really isn't designed for what you are asking from it.
