Marking Flat fish on the bottom

Greetings
I have a TZT3 with a DFF3D multi beam transducer
How do I set up the sounder/plotter to mark flat fish Petrale sole in 300-500 ft of water

Pete Albers,

The DFF3D does have a “White Line” function, and this allows you to easily discriminate between a hard bottom and for fish that may be resting on the bottom. However, the DFF3D was designed to map structure, and the White Line feature can only display on the DFF3D’s center beam.

Also keep in the mind, that the DFF3D's beam width is 120° left to right, and a narrow fore and aft beam width of 8°. So that's a pretty narrow beam width that is used to detect any fish that may be resting on the sea bed.

I hope that you find this information is helpful..?

Thanks fish tech so the chirp fish finder is only 8 degrees? That’s weak
Does the white flat line follow the bottom with out all the ups and downs of the Pacific.
Where the plotter show a constant jagged bottom even on sand

The installer must have really misinformed you on this tool. To begin with it isn't CHIRP. It is extremely popular in the fishing market for what it is designed for and people love them. There are many tools and doing research after buying it isn't likely the best way to go about getting what you want for specific purposes.

The DFF3D like many of the sounders can be stabilized for heaving by adding a device like the SCX20. That example DeepBlue provided is to show while it is possible to have whiteline and see items laying flat on the bottom, it is very difficult. Your normal fishfinder would be normally used for that. Wide multi-beam sonar is designed more for use in finding fish and then go back and focus down on them with an appropriate fish finder. The target fish can make a big difference on what freq is needed to target it. Many also use the DFF3D for building their own bathy data on the charts with a TZT3 or TZTXL. Its a great product but like I said originally, it really isn't designed for what you are asking from it.

(You are correct it is a perfect example of heaving going on there)
