If you lose GPS position then heading (COG) would also be lost.
I would guess that something is blocking the sky view. Is your GP1971 flush mounted? Is the console fiberglass? Is the hardtop with the solar panels aluminum?
When this happens again tap the satellite icon at the top right corner and check the satellite status. Maybe post a picture of the page along with a picture of how it is mounted.
