Help Needed with ACCU-FISH Settings (Fish Size Display) – GP-1971F

Hello everyone,

I would like some help regarding the ACCU-FISH function on my Furuno sonar.

My setup:
  • Sonar: Furuno GP-1971F
  • Transducer: AIRMAR TM258 (1 kW, 50/200 kHz, non-CHIRP)
I am able to clearly see fish schools on the screen, however I am having difficulty displaying the estimated size of individual fish using ACCU-FISH.

In the ACCU-FISH menu, I see the following options:
  • Fish Size
  • Depth (m)
  • Surface / Bottom
  • ACCU-FISH Filter: Filter 1, Filter 2, Filter 3, Filter 4
I am not sure how these parameters should be configured to improve the visualization of fish size information on the screen.

My main questions are:
  1. How should Fish Size, Depth, and Surface/Bottom be set for best results?
  2. What is the practical difference between ACCU-FISH Filter 1, 2, 3, and 4?
  3. Which ACCU-FISH Filter is recommended to better estimate fish size without generating false targets?
  4. Are there specific gain, TVG, or frequency settings that help ACCU-FISH work more accurately?
For reference, I fish in:
  • Shallow water: up to 30 meters
  • Deep water: between 150 and 300 meters
Any advice or recommended configuration would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards

rafaelmn,

The ACCU-FISH filters are customizable. Tap [Home] => [Settings] => [Fish Finder], then tap ACCU-FISH.
You can customize all 4 filters. This information can be found in section 6.19 of the owners manual.

When cross referencing the AIRMAR TM258 on the AIRMAR website it came back as the Furuno 525TID-TMD. Here is what I found on that.

Important Note for your Team:When setting up the TM258 on Furuno software (like the GP-1971F or TZTouch), it may not appear in the dropdown menu by name. In these cases, selecting the "Generic 1kW 50/200kHz"

Since the 525TID‑TMD is not among the AF‑capable models, it is not compatible with the Accu-Fish™ function. It will display classic sonar echoes (fish arches, bottom structure, temperature), but won’t provide the fish-size target icons or fish-depth hints that Accu-Fish™ offers.

You will not be able to get the ACCU-FISH function with that set-up nor Bottom Discrimination.
