Before I register the device I wanted to determine the length of the warranty and whether it mattered who I bought it from.

Paul; unlike other companies we don't penalize you for not buying from an authorized dealer. In general, the warranty is two years from date of purchase but subject to the full written policy. If the unit was purchased three years ago by the seller; then warranty might be expired. If you have a unit you are buying and would like to check the warranty; please PM me the serial number and I can see the status for you.
