Hi, My GP1971f does not advance the screen to follow the boats position when the boat icon moves off of it. It's a pain to have to reach up and advance it manually all the time. Do I have something entered incorrectly, is there possibly a problem with my unit or is that just how it is? I'm new to touch screen and so far I can say I'm not a fan.

Hi,
If you ever go off center from the boat icon to look around on the map, you should see the center vessel icon in the top right as the picture shows below. If you have good position data, the boat icon will move along with you now.But anytime you see that icon, you are not centered and need to be centered for the screen to move along with you.
