I would like to use this unit as a stand alone wind display. No GPS or transducer.
What wind sensor could be used?

Hello,

We have a few options for you.

220WX provides weather information with no moving parts. Really easy to install. Just a drop into your NMEA2000 backbone. Your GP1870F would have a drop into the backbone also.

Here is a wind transducer. This requires you to purchase a cable and the junction box and would go into your NMEA2000 backbone.

Here is a basic wind package we have already with an FI70 display, wind transducers, cables, and junction box.

Thank you, I need to flesh this out a bit. I plan to install a GP1971F but would like to use the 1870 as a multi-function display using the full screen to display elements of wind, engine and tankage without any navigation or transducer information.

So the GP1870F and GP1971F are primary NMEA2000 devices. Both of those units will connect to the NMEA2000 backbone via drop cable, a long with the wind sensor and then you can setup the GP1870F to display the wind data.

You don't have to connect the GP1971F to the backbone if you don't want it to receive any wind data and keep it more standalone.

Are you familiar with NMEA2000 and how it works?
