i troll areas in the shallows that have sandbars and am looking to buy the GP1870F and having trouble finding how shallow the 1870 will read? I don't want to get stuck on a sandbar.
If I read correctly the 1870 in one range will read down to 0, is this correct?
Thanks

Lagoon Lizard,
Good question. The scale starts at 0 but that doesn't mean the sounder will read that shallow. A sounder that uses only one transducer will have a dead spot right at the zero mark due to the ringing of the transducer. We have never really tested the sounder for this. However I know a gentleman who is using an 1870 on a jet boat in a river so I have asked him to see how shallow it will read. He will be going fishing in the next day or day so we will see what he reports.

Lagoon Lizard,
Below is a screen shot of the 1870 in shallow water (2.2ft). This system was set up for fishing and not for shallow water detection. He was using a 1kw transducer which is to much power for shallow water. But if you look at the main bang (zero line) and if you were using it on low power I will comfortable that the GP-1870 would show the bottom at 1ft, maybe less. Hope this helps.

Lagoon Lizard,
Below is another screen shot of the GP-1870 using a lower power and gain setting. The screen shot shows a depth of 2ft but you can see he was a little shallower a short time before.
