I always tell my sons that there is nothing for free

so I cant figure this out
I'm in the market for a higher quality fish finder
the FCV-627 looks like the one
but then it seems that according to the spec sheets the GP1670F has everything in it that the FCV-627 has plus a chartplotter for less money

can that be true ?
I mean I don't need a chartplotter but if the sonar portion of the device has all the same electronics why not

also the GP1870F that one is the same price as the FCV-627 and has a bigger screen
again is the sonar technology the same as the FCV-627 ?

thanks

Saltierdog,
The sounder portion of the GP-1670F is very similar to the FCV-627 and the GP-1870F is similar the FCV-587. You are correct that you are getting a quality sounder AND a plotter for roughly the same price. Both the GP-1670/1870 have a built in GPS and are NMEA 2000 compatible. Add a chart chip and you are ready to go fishing.

Thaks for the quick reply !
when you say similar what do you loose ?
again I dont wanna loose technology
I understand that the knobology will not be as seamless as a dedicated unit but I dont wanna loose the filters and high quality software algorythms

thanks

Saltierdog,
Maybe instead of saying similar I should have said equal.

I just installed my gp 1870f and found where the chart cards goes, under the rubber door in the lower right hand corner. And see the port for the USB............but where is the slot for the SD card?........am I missing something?

DoubletroubleII,
Hopefully is will help. NOTE: I used a Navionics chart as reference.

I have an 1870F on my small boat and I must say that the sounder portion is quite impressive. Using a relatively cheap B60 transducer in water less than 150 ft at 200Hz, its performance in some respects almost looks better than the DFF1-UHD on my larger boat. The GP1870F is a genuine bargain being priced as it is compared to the standalone sounders.

I am just a customer and no one is paying me to say this!
