I think my 1650 is on its way out. My intentions are to pick up a gp7000 (have to stay with 0183) on eBay etc.

Is there a serial number range that is available that will avoid any issues with updates that i have read about?

If the concern is needing NMEA 0183; why not consider the new GP1871F or GP1971F?
The GP7000F is an older unit in which I would have to guess any owner would have updated the software as they moved along. If not the software is free and easy to install. Unless you are trying to get a good deal by purchasing older equipment, I would highly recommend the GP1871F/GP1971F.

All my consumers are 183.

I run the cables from my 1650 and gp33 to a GPS buss which feed all my consumers. If i went 1871 or 1971 that means i have to get the k2 which i don't know would work in that configuration.

Ideas?

The GP1871F and GP1971F have the following NMEA 0183 message outputs.
GLL,GGA,GNS,GSA,GSV,HDG,HDT,MTW,MWV,RMA,RMB,RMC,RTE,THS,TLL,VHW,VTG,WPL,XTE, and ZDA. (Depending on sensors connected such as transducer)

Do you require other messages? If not then you won’t require an N2K conversion.

Thanks Melville

Wish the Furuno guy at Fred Hall show had told me about the 183 compatibility I would have bought the machine on the spot.

As always the Furuno forum crew comes though. Thanks!
